I bought this and a quality felt/wool pad to go on a hardwood floor under my office chair. It is thick and very comfortable. I did have to get used to the fact that I couldn't roll my chair around like before but once I got used to that, I love the rug and pad. It is thick enough to provide a good protective cushion to my floor. It looks great too. It will shed a little but that should recede with time. I have learned to position my office chair where I can swivel in and out of it with ease without having to move the chair. For me, the choice was between a more substantial protective rug or a thinner, less protective rug. I had the former. It wore out quickly. This rug should last for a long time.
